For children

Opole is a compact and safe city whose greenery and family atmosphere has a lot to offer to our little ones. You can customise your trip, especially considering that you do not need to waste hours travelling between attractions in Opole.

When visiting the city with children, the Zoo is a must-see as it is one of the most beautiful zoological gardens in Poland! On your journey across the seven continents you will meet noble giraffes, cute red pandas, agile cougars, elegant zebras, friendly anteaters, as well as many ape and monkey species such as lemurs and gorillas. It also has a California sea lion pen and an exotic gorilla enclosure! The Opole Zoo is home to more than 1500 animals. It really feels like a tropical jungle or untouched wilderness. Children can have a great time at the mini zoo, where they can pet and feed animals. Other attractions include the feeding of many of the zoo’s species by the staff, which takes place at set hours. There are also playgrounds surrounded by greenery, picnic spots and food venues. The Zoo in the Song Capital of Poland is a place you can spend several hours exploring without becoming bored.
Another outdoor point of interest is the Opole Open-Air Rural Museum. It is a perfect place for an outdoor history lesson for the young and old alike. In addition to several fully-restored homesteads, the museum also includes a village school in which children can try their hand at writing with a quill. The smithy is always a hit with visitors, who can learn about the blacksmith’s trade from a guide.  Children will undoubtedly be amazed to see the apothecary’s shop and the tavern, which are incredibly different from what we know today. There are also two beautiful windmills and a machine which demonstrates how grain was milled in the past to make flour. All of the museum’s buildings, almost 50 in total, are made of wood and perfectly preserved. They are surrounded by large swathes of spring greenery and connected by a network of paths and roads, which you can enjoy for hours if you have a wooden cart and some picnic blankets. Simply enjoy the nature, far away from smartphones and the hustle and bustle of the big city.
All children love climbing, jumping and spinning on a merry-go-round! The Opole Youth Culture Centre features a modern, colourful, disability-friendly playground for children. 40 different rides for little children can be found in the safe, padded area. Older children can enjoy zip lining and climbing walls with nets. Other attractions include a disability-friendly merry-go-round and swing. Parents will also find something to do there as the playground features outdoor exercise equipment.
Summer and the summer holidays are usually associated with water. This is why it is a great idea to visit the outdoor Summer Pool in Rose Square. The complex is made up of three outdoor swimming pools, one of them 50 metres long. Its main attractions include 3 slides, an artificial river and a paddling pool with a mushroom fountain for children. Those who like to stay active can play a game of beach volleyball. One of the greatest things about Błękitna Fala is the fact that it is located almost in the very heart of the city. As an outdoor facility, it is also still surrounded by a tangle of trees. You can cool off there, get some exercise and sunbathe, especially once the Spanish heat waves begin.
Another interesting place for children is the John Paul II Square. It is perfect for riding a balance bike or skating. The musical playground is where children can play music toys. Every evening, an illuminated water fountain lends the place a magical atmosphere.
Inclement weather? Don’t worry, Opole has a lot to offer indoors as well. Be sure to visit the John Paul II City Public Library – its colourful Fairy Tale Room on the first floor is where children can play and read, as well as enjoying a myriad of board games. Various meetings, workshops and exhibitions are also organised in the library’s 2 galleries.
