We go past the centre of the city and go towards the amphitheatre , right by the Mlynowka canal – there is yet another stop on our route – the Monument of Karol Musiol.
Monument of Karol Musiol
Between 1952 and 1963, Karol Musiol was the Chairman of the City Council in Opole. Thanks to his initiative the Amphitheatre by Ostrowek – the place of the annual National Festival of the Polish Song – was built. It was also thanks to him that the Days of Opole were established and incorporated into the calendar of the city events. The Association of the Friends of Opole was also set up to co-organise the Festival and the AFO club called Musiolowka (currently the Papa Musiol’s Klub) was established.
Next to the club, on the 25th April 2008, the monument of Karol Musiol by an artist Wit Pichurski, was unveiled. The sculpture shows smiling Musiol with a briefcase in his hands and a fluttering tie over his head, as if he was walking from the Voivodship Office towards the Town hall.
Now head towards the castle pond with a playing fountain.
