Castle pond and musical fountain
The lovely pond is all that is left from what used to be a moat around the Piast Castle and the adjacent park. In the past, boats sailed on the pond and its surface turned into an ice rink in winter – a professional one, with artificial lighting, cloakroom and flooder. The city authorities have decided to resurrect this tradition, transforming the pond into an ice rink every winter. Surrounded by greenery and standing in the shadow of the beautiful 1909 Ice Home, which survived the war almost unscathed, skating there is a pleasure. It was there that the headquarters of the Polish Tourist and Sightseeing Society (PTTK) was located, as well as a youth hostel, café and restaurant.
Currently the greatest summer attraction is the musical fountain. Popular Polish hits first sung and promoted in Opole can be heard from the speakers, with the fountain spouting water and lights dancing to their rhythm.
