“Solidarity” Memorial Chamber

The exhibition “In the footsteps of the time of hope” is a permanent exhibition devoted to the people and events owing to which the People’s Republic of Poland (PRL) period in the Opole region ended. The originator and advocate of its foundation is the late Roman Kirstein, chairman of MKZ Opole (Inter-Factory Strike Committee) of NSZZ “Solidarity”, one of the founders of “Solidarity” trade union in the Opolskie Province, and a distinguished citizen of the City of Opole. Thanks to his great heart and work, it was possible to save from oblivion a vital part of the Polish road to freedom. A team of experts was involved in the initiative to establish the “Solidarity” Memorial Chamber, and the materials displayed at the exhibition come from many residents of our province who participated in the events of that period. The exhibition, “In the footsteps of the time of hope”, presents people, events, and facts. It leaves the interpretations and evaluation to its visitors.
