Super sweet and chewy fudge, lard spiced with a mixture of herbs spread on healthful bread with gherkin, herbs and herbal vinegar, as well as delicious Silesian crumb cake – delicacies like these can be enjoyed every year in September at the Franciscan Fair. At the same time, attendees can contribute to the renovation of the historic Franciscan monastery complex, as this is what this year’s profits will go to. The fair is also an opportunity to go through the normally-closed gate of the monastery and look around the complex. Other attractions include music and dance shows.
The Franciscan Fair is a perfect opportunity to stock up on delicious food, whether regional or not. The numerous stalls that crop up sell genuine honey, cold cuts, spices, preserves, tinctures, beer, bread, cheese, cakes, pastries and other sweets from Silesia, Poland, the eastern borderlands, Lithuania and Austria. There are also many stalls offering handicrafts.

The fair is organised by the Opole Franciscan convent, the Opole City Hall and the Opole Youth Culture Centre. Its main purpose is to popularise the history of the Opole Piast necropolis underneath the Franciscan Church and raise funds for its renovation.
